Find your first businesses

For: All plans

Find Businesses builds a list of businesses in any town you pick and checks each website for you.

New here? The Get your first sample out checklist at the top of Find Businesses walks you through it. See "Get your first sample out".

  1. Click Find Businesses in the left menu.
  2. Under Type of business, pick a type, like Dentists.
  3. Under City, type a town with its state, like "Austin, TX".
  4. Click Find businesses. The list fills in as each website is checked.
  5. To see only the businesses with no video, check Only businesses with no video.
  6. Click Save to add a business to My list, or Open to see it up close.

Where does the business data come from? Click Business data sources under the results.

Few results? Explaindio looks a little farther out around the town you searched. A business in a different town says near and the town you searched, for example "near Austin, TX".

No business you can send a sample to? If every result has no website, a website that isn't working, or a video already, Explaindio suggests related kinds of business in the same town. Click one to search it, or try a bigger town nearby.

A business you know isn't in your results? Big national chains are left out, so your list is independent businesses. A business also won't show if the map data doesn't have it yet.

"A few businesses didn't load this time." The map didn't send every business for that search. The list shows the rest, and the missing ones usually show up if you search again later. On a plan with a monthly search limit, a search like this doesn't use one of your searches.

"Busy right now: showing the main results." At a very busy moment, Explaindio shows the businesses in the town you searched first. Try the search again later to add nearby businesses and related searches.

See a "Related" button? For some types of business, Explaindio also counts a close match, for example Related: HVAC (6). Click it to run that search.

If it doesn't work: If you still get few results, try a nearby larger town or a broader type of business, or connect your own map key (see "Find more businesses with your map key").
